Education & Training

Unlike a lot of journalists I know, I didn’t study journalism or take a course in mass communication. I learnt most of the stuff on the job, and I am continuing to learn and unlearn ways of reporting stories as I grow.

I studied in New Delhi. I went to Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) for my Bachelors and received a degree in Philosophy. I also spent a lot of my time travelling, volunteering at animal shelters, learning, practicing and performing dance.

Once I was done with graduation, I decided to buy myself some more time and went in for a Master’s degree. I studied Sociology at Ambedkar University (AUD)
from July 2017 – April 2019.

While studying at AUD, I applied for an internship at CNN International and got selected to be one of the interns in the New Delhi bureau, in 2018. I used my summer and winter holidays to work at CNN, got to meet Sam Kiley (which was awesome btw) and also got to be a part of the coverage of some stories that will always stay with me – like the Unnao case, the Kathua story, the Tham Luang cave rescue. I barely played any role when these stories were being reported but I learnt a lot by being around.

I did get to write articles of my own. I would pitch my stories to the editors who would take the final call – if it was worth publishing or not.
You can have a look at some of the articles I have written over here.

After my internship ended, I freelanced with CNN for a bit – primarily helping the New Delhi bureau with their coverage of news coming out of Bangladesh.
I also got to cover parts of the 2019 General Election of India with CNN.

In July 2019, I joined Feature Story News – and here is where I learnt how to edit videos on Premiere Pro; script, record and edit radio stories; produce content for television pieces and so much more!

Parts of Ambedkar University are inside 400-year-old heritage buildings in the heart of Old Delhi. Some of these buildings have been around since the Mughal period.
